Mission

To inspire passion for the literary arts, nurture community connections, and administer professional development for adult writers (18+) within Solano County.

Values

Commitment

Writing is our priority. We show up for ourselves by committing to our craft. We show up for each other by supporting the process.

Voice

Writing is an act of bravery. We all have a story to be told. We feel empowered to break the rules that silence our truth.

Opportunity

We empower writers to succeed. We advocate for diversity and the inclusion of everyone.

Delight

We hold space for writers to delight in putting words on the page.

History

Solano Writers Society was founded by Breanna Hardy in June 2019 after she was disappointed to find no active writing community within her home of Solano County. The literary arts were pulsing and alive in San Francisco, Sacramento, the East Bay… but not within her county—the county that raised US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith (2017-2019) and musical artists E-40, Sage the Gemini, and H.E.R.

Solano County has been hailed as one of the most diverse areas in the nation. Its towns are filled with myriad voices, experiences, and stories that deserve to be lifted up. Hardy decided that if no local groups existed, she would create one herself.

The group started small, just a few scrappy writers with big hearts and ideas who came together for casual writing sessions. With the addition of Shea Robinson in the summer of 2020, the group was able to transform into an intentional space devoted to craft for goal-oriented, tenacious writers.

Solano Writers Society hosts Hit Refresh Write-Ins that happen virtually on Wednesdays and that happen monthly in-person. Learn more about what Solano Writers Society has to offer here.
